Rex G. Baker III, Partner

Rex has an AV-Preeminent Rating for legal ability and ethical standards with Martindale-Hubbell, which has provided peer-reviewed ratings of attorneys since 1887. Rex’s practice focuses on real estate development, banking, corporate mergers and acquisitions, municipal law, probate, and estate planning. Rex started his legal career in Houston at a large law firm, practicing in banking, real estate, securities and general business. He moved to Dripping Springs in 1991 where he started his own firm. From 1995 to 2006, Rex served as the Justice of the Peace for Precinct 4, Hays County. In that role he served as a member of the Texas Bar Association Judicial Ethics Committee and as the Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Justices of the Peace and Constable Association. In 2004, he was appointed to the State Commission on Judicial Conduct and in 2006 he served as Chair. Rex has served on multiple boards, including the Dripping Springs Independent School District Educational Foundation, the Greater Dripping Springs Community Foundation, and the City of Dripping Springs Economic Development Commission. He is the current President of the Board of Directors of the University of Texas Foundation. Rex is also the former City Attorney for the City of Horseshoe Bay and the City of Dripping Springs.

Thomas W. Robertson, Partner

Tom’s general civil litigation practice focuses on real estate, construction, business disputes, deed restrictions, and collections. Tom also has experience representing homeowners’ associations with covenant enforcement, assessment collection, litigation, and dispute resolution. Tom has also argued cases before the Third Court of Appeals and the Texas Supreme Court.  Tom joined Rex in 2001 to manage the firm’s civil litigation practice. Prior to joining Baker and Robertson, Tom worked as a solo practitioner. During undergrad Tom also studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science before getting his BA in Philosophy at Haverford.

Dan O’Brien, Partner

Dan represents clients in real estate litigation and transactions, estate planning and probate, and general civil litigation matters.  He draws on his experience as a former County Court at Law Judge in Hays County handling thousands of civil and criminal matters. He is an AV-Preeminent rated lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell and recognized multiple times as a Texas Super Lawyer® (a Thompson Reuters rating service) in the area of General Litigation. He served as briefing attorney to Justice Davie L. Wilson of the First Court of Appeals in Houston before practicing for several years in the commercial litigation section of a large Austin-based law firm.  Dan is a qualified mediator providing mediation and arbitration services in and around Dripping Springs.

Dan is a Past President of the Hays County Bar Association, a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, a Fellow of the University of Texas School of Law’s Center for Public Policy Dispute Resolution, and a former Barrister Member of the Robert W. Calvert Inn of Court. In 2019, he was awarded the Hays County Bar Association’s Service Award.  Dan has served in numerous community leadership roles, including as director of The Burke Center for Youth, The Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce, and HCWC (Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center).  He is also a Commissioner and Past President of North Hays EMS and former Commissioner of the Dripping Springs Emergency Management Commission.

Attorney Rex G. Baker IV

Rex IV comes to the firm after a decade of work as a founding partner of a boutique practice in the Boston area filling the role of “outside general counsel” for small businesses, technology startups, and creative professionals. His experience includes sales of businesses, venture capital transactions, commercial real estate, intellectual property licensing, employee equity incentive structures, strategic partnerships between enterprises, and helping creative professionals make a living while pursuing their passion. Rex IV previously worked in what is now the Houston office of an AmLaw 100 firm, focused primarily on mergers and acquisitions in the energy sector.

Rex IV is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and Texas.

Heather Jones Holmes,
Senior Counsel

Heather’s practice focuses on real estate, commercial lending, estate planning, and probate. Prior to joining Baker and Robertson, Heather worked as a staff attorney at the Texas Supreme Court for Justice Phil Johnson and Justice Brett Busby where she worked on hundreds of appeals. She also gained an insight into the workings of the Texas court system while developing strong research and writing skills. Heather previously worked as a law clerk to Justice Charles Seymore at the Fourteenth Court of Appeals and as committee counsel for the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee, chaired by Senator Robert Duncan.
